okay, frequent shutdowns i could handle. but this is too much D:

COMPUTER HALP, PLS?

i can no longer save files to my hard drive (as i recently discovered when attempting to save the new irina/pete candids >:O). this has extended to sendspace/other misc file sharing sites.

it's not a matter of disk space, as i apparently have something like 13.8 GB free. but every time i try to "save as...", nothing happens -- the little firefox "download" window doesn't pop up and the file goes nowhere. i've tried deleting a bunch of folders (mostly the piles upon piles of graphics work) and doing the file compression thing, but it's still not working.

however, i've tried copying images, pasting them into PSP, and saving them from there, and that's doing just fine. but that's kind of a hassle when i'm trying to save dozens of images at a time.

any ideas? frankly, i trust you guys more than some random faq site (and you're a lot clearer on the matter, as well).

this very well might be a case of "well, my computer's tired and going to die soon". though it can't really be more than two-three years old, it's been through a lot >> but i'm going to cross my fingers that that isn't the case.

if this problem can't be fixed, i can't say i'm going to be very productive in the way of making new icons/graphics. :/

EDIT: also, i really miss my brigid wenlock ([info]angly), despite ... y'know, never having actually played her. but i really got into writing her up and blah.

DOUBLE EDIT: okay, it's looking like the problem is firefox. i've tried downloading stuff on IE, and it works just fine. but i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, and it's still being problematic. thoughts?

Do you have a flash drive? If so, can you save things to it, or can you not save anything to any drive?

it's turning out that it's just firefox that won't let me save things (which is still a pretty big problem, since that's my main browser and i have some major anger issues with IE). D:

IE is beyond frustrating, I agree. Did this problem start with an update to FF? I know you can reinstall firefox, but firefox saves its user profile to a different directory, so you'd have the same settings.

What I'd do:
1. Uninstall Firefox. If it gives you a choice to delete your user profile, say yes (back up your bookmarks).
2. If it doesn't give you a choice to delete your user profile, you can reinstall and create a new one to test to see if your settings are the problem. That's the best tutorial I've seen. I wish I knew more about it. If you use a new profile that's 'clean' from scratch, you might not have the error.

Hmmm. First, have you tried doing a system restore to a point before this started happening?

Hmm. I don't know if you're still having this problem, but is the only problem with Firefox the downloading/saving? If so, you might consider playing around with some download manager extensions, to see if that might help and/or shed some light on what's happening. I use Download Statusbar, and I've heard tons of good things about FlashGot.
